Germany, Land of Music! Popkomm Chooses Germany As Partner Country!

Presenting German music to the international industry Initiatives by the music industry and cultural policy-makers to promote German music

Einstürzende Neubauten, Kraftwerk and Rammstein are internationally known names, as are Nena, Seeed, Paul van Dyk and Tokio Hotel. But there is much more to German music than just these artists. In order to alert the international music industry to all that Germany can offer in this field, Popkomm has selected Germany as its partner country in 2007.

A British band meets an Australian booker. A Spanish label gets acquainted with a Norwegian distributor. Popkomm focuses on exchanges, networking, information and expertise, and it is now firmly established as a not-to-be-missed event for the international music industry. Foreign companies come to Berlin in order to promote their own artists and discover new names for their own markets. Young bands know that Popkomm is a useful platform for getting known outside their own countries and for helping them to establish an international reputation. In 2007 attention will be focusing on Germany. The aim is to present German talent to the international music world and to promote exports.

Keeping pace with Europe: creativity as an economic factor

The choice of the partner country for 2007 is closely linked with the "Initiative Musik", which is in the process of being set up in Germany. This private-public-partnership between the music industry and those responsible for cultural policy is intended to forge links between creativity and business, for the benefit of pop, rock and jazz from Germany. According to the Minister of State for Culture Bernd Neumann: "Many of our European neighbours have already recognised the importance of the creative sector as an economic factor and have taken the appropriate action, with some success. Investments in this field are an investment in the future. Support for music as a component of the creative sector points the way forward for Germany as a business location. Acting as the partner country of Popkomm will enable us to stimulate greater international interest in German music."

Germany, a land of music

The soccer World Cup in 2006 was "a time to make friends", and Germany was seen as a "land of ideas". And in 2007 Germany will become the Land of Music. "The fact that politicians have finally recognised the importance of the creative sector for our countryıs cultural, social and economic development gives an excellent signal to the music scene in Germany. As an international market place for music we intend, of course, to lend our support to this development and to German artists," says Dr. Ralf Kleinhenz, Managing Director Popkomm, explaining the reasons for choosing Germany as the partner country.

Popkomm plug in to success

The 19th Popkomm will be taking place from 19 to 21 September in Berlin. As an international platform for the music and entertainment industry Popkomm attracts thousands of trade visitors from all over the world. The integrated concept of this event makes it unique. Popkomm is the only industry meeting place in the world that combines a trade show with a convention and a festival. Consequently Popkomm is a major attraction not only for its core business of music but also attracts the representatives of other sectors such as concerts, the movies, mobile entertainment, fashion and advertising to the exhibition halls in Berlin. Popkomm is being staged in the German capital for the fourth time. Popkomm 2007 is organised by Popkomm GmbH, Berlin.
